What is mental performance training?
Mental performance training is individually tailored consulting for all professionals who consider themselves to be performers (e.g., athletes, coaches, business owners, executives, sales representatives, musicians, actors, and medical professionals) from teenagers to seasoned professionals. Mental performance teaches mental skills (e.g., self-confidence, motivation, emotion regulation) and techniques (goal-setting, imagery, and mindfulness) to improve personal performance, job satisfaction, and general well-being. Common areas that mental performance training can assist in are fear of failure, performance anxiety, and detrimental aspects of perfectionism. You’ll develop self-awareness for your own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in your performance situations, and the goal is to lead to developing personal control in these areas to better work towards your goals. Everyone has the potential and ability to grow in their personal development. My goal is for you to know that you are not your own barrier toward your goals and what is important to you.
Why mental performance training?
In what we call the first mountain, attention is placed on physical and skill development. While those aspects are important to success, there is more to getting individuals to perform at their potential. Physical preparation does not translate to mental preparation for competition, growth, or success. The same can be true for leaders and decision-makers outside of the sports industry.
At the second mountain, where we see full potential reached, we focus on the mental side of development, for athletes, coaches, leaders, teams, and organizations. Mental training is not meant to be the answer to an individual’s development, but it can be part of a holistic approach that compliments other forms of training (i.e., physical, skill, communication, leadership).
Mental training can help athletes, leaders, and teams gain a competitive edge by providing the tools and resources needed to perform at their best despite the circumstances. Ultimately, we strive to help clients reach their goals, become the best version of themselves, and improve their overall experiences and well-being.
The approach
When working with clients, we utilize evidence-based practices that have been applied to the field of sports performance. We stay up-to-date on sport and performance psychology consulting research and applied practices.
We meet clients where they are at, encouraging a working alliance approach where the client and I collaborate towards their desired goals.
Sessions are individually tailored to fit my client’s personal style, needs, and goals.
Clients are asked to put what we discuss into practice between sessions. Simple, practical approaches in between sessions are best. As clients grow in confidence in their mental skills, this should translate to using these skills where they are needed.
